Workshop with Francesca Chiacchio: “Looking for the right composition”

Through the analysis of her own images, Francesca will highlight the elements that make a good photographic image and will guide the participants in positioning these elements in a balanced manner within the frame. She will talk about background and foreground, voids and solids, lights and shadows, main subject and secondary elements, layers and overlaps.

SCHEDULE:

10:00-11:00 – Introduction to composition in Street Photography.

11:00-13:00 – Shooting session. Francesca will guide the participants side by side in the process of shooting.

13:00-14:30 – Lunch break

14:30-16:30 – Afternoon shooting. Francesca will guide the participants side by side in the process of shooting.

BIO FRANCESCA CHIACCHIO

Francesca started shooting and developing photos while studying architecture in Naples, Italy. After graduating, she enrolled in a 3-month intensive photography course, and soon after she moved to NYC, with the idea of becoming a professional photographer. Once there, she ended up working as an architect, taking pictures in her free time. Back in Naples, she got passionate about Street Photography and since then her work has been exhibited in various photography festivals and exhibitions worldwide, and it has been featured in numerous international magazines and webpages. Since 2020 Francesca has been a member of an international street photography collective called Through the Lands, whose aim is to connect photographers from around the world.

In 2021 she appears, among other 99 female street photographers, in the book Women Street Photographers edited by Prestel Publishing. In 2023 an article about Francesca has been published on the italian magazine Il Fotografo. In the same year she collaborates with Fujifilm Italia to narrate one of their X-Stories; and she wins the second prize with her collection Napolism at the Gothenburg Street Photo Festival. She was also invited to collaborate with international street photography magazine Eyeshot Magazine to lead a series of photographic experiences organized in Naples during the Eyeshot Open Call 2023 exhibition. In 2024 her name appears among 5 Masters of Street Photography (along with Martin Parr, Stefano Mirabella, Eolo Perfido, and Gabriele Galimberti) on the magazine Fotocult.it; and she publishes her first Zine with Docu Magazine. In 2025 she exhibited her Napolism project at the Festival Fotografico Europeo near Milan. Francesca has been a judge and guest speaker at several international street photography festivals (Gothenburg, Istanbul, Athens, Brussels, and Rome) and has been leading workshops in Italy and abroad.
